I picked up these cottonwood leaves from the forest floor along Catherine Creek a month or so ago. They were freshly fallen, moist and rich in fall color. I intended to paint them right away, but instead placed them on a window sill and semi-forgot them while one thing lead to another.
I noticed them today, realizing they had acquired another kind of beauty over time. Now their curling surfaces are crackle-dry and fragile, their colors faded to the most delicate and beautiful harmonies.
