At the time I painted it, I recall being bothered that I couldn't create enough contrast between limbs and water, but now I think I prefer it that way.Don Grayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10497657029761169270noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3674898426369236660.post-21797745979614691132008-04-10T13:05:00.000-07:002008-04-10T13:05:00.000-07:00This is advanced composition. I think what success (or at least unusual character) there might be in this painting is partly due to the fact that one views the painting quite a bit like one would see the scene itself. What I mean is there are competing focal points, no single center of interest. And, for me at least, the branches on the right function quite a bit like reality in that if I look at the water, the branches kind of disappear from focus, and vice-versa.Don Grayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10497657029761169270noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3674898426369236660.post-40081270969495880262008-04-09T08:55:00.000-07:002008-04-09T08:55:00.000-07:00I enjoy how you find a peaceful scene and manage t...I enjoy how you find a peaceful scene and manage to make an arresting image from it. I don't know how you do that. I imagine one thing is not forgetting that first impression when you first lay eyes on a scene.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3674898426369236660.post-20999714324589119552008-04-08T16:13:00.000-07:002008-04-08T16:13:00.000-07:00Thank you, Triecia.Thank you, Triecia.Don Grayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10497657029761169270noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3674898426369236660.post-18699650480445019442008-04-08T15:55:00.000-07:002008-04-08T15:55:00.000-07:00This is really lovely work Don, the rocks, the sha...This is really lovely work Don, the rocks, the shadows, the reflections, all beautiful - well done!A Reason to Painthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10566936426389663398noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3674898426369236660.post-70463726090857364392008-04-08T14:24:00.000-07:002008-04-08T14:24:00.000-07:00Thanks, Kim. I put quite a bit of effort into trying to make the water's shadows and reflections appear effortless.
