| Escape to Sedona
Watercolor on archival paper, 6" x 6" $125.00 + $6.00 shipping in US. |
| I decided to hop down to Sedona, Arizona yesterday for a quick escape from the snow. Well...only in my dreams. But that's what's great about being an artist, right? With memory, imagination, sketches or photos, we can transport ourselves wherever we wish to be on a daily basis.
I was shuffling through some of the many Arizona photos I took when we lived in Flagstaff. Back then we really could escape the snow fast. When the white stuff got too thick for us in Flag (and believe me, it DOES snow in Flagstaff--sometimes two or three feet in one snowfall,) we'd hop in the car and drive right out of it in a half-hour, down the Oak Creek Canyon switchbacks to the relative warmth of Sedona, where it was nearly always sunny and mild. Now that's escapism! | |

Hi Don,
This painting has great shadows! The warmth of the rock and earth against the greens of the background works so well. Once again I am impressed by the detail you convey in such a small painting. I also admire the color intensity of your watercolors. Nice!
The only time I visited Flagstaff, it was piled high with snow. Next time you're in Sedona, I'll meet you there! Well, I guess that I'm doing that right now!
Hi Joanne, thanks for your kind comments. It has been fun to re-explore watercolor after many years away from the medium.
Did you by chance do a concert in Flag, Suzanne? We were always impressed with the number and quality of performers who visited that smallish town. We saw Ray Charles, the Marine Corps band, Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Cassandra Wilson, Isaac Stern, the Moscow Ballet, to name a few.
Never performed in Arizona, Don. Roswell, and Santa Fe, NM are the only places I can remember performing in that part of the world.
Thank you for the mention in your blog! I'm honored, and even more so after viewing your paintings! Very beautiful watercolors. Thanks again---------Sue
Thanks, Sue. I'm most happy to feature your fine work.
