Canyon Road

Oil on board, 6" x 6"

There's a certain kind of light that I love this time of year, on the cusp of the coming spring. The sun seems to soften just a bit, showing us a kindlier countenance than its sharp-featured winter face.

The road to High Valley passes through a little narrow canyon, lined with Cottonwood and the beautiful orange colored limbs of Golden Willow.

You've captured it beautifully, and made me love it too. This scene is absolutely breathtaking, transcendent.

That cast shadow on the road pulls me in and takes me to the golden hill in the middle ground. Really, really beautiful.

Wow the light in this is just gorgeous, Don! You've done a wonderful job capturing this scene. Makes me think of the terrain over past Joseph, Oregon on the way to Hell's Canyon.

Don, your paintings always remind me of a journey, the small excitements of travelling down unknown roads and the joy of travelling in itself.

You're right Diana--it is very similar to that country. We live in the Grande Ronde Valley, which is not that far from Joseph, maybe 40-50 miles, as the crow flies. Thanks for those encouraging words!

Interesting observation Sheila, thank you. I would be delighted if a painting of mine could imply a journey of any kind--something beyond the borders of the painting.

I've walked down this road in another place.. have seen the colors and felt the crisp air and smelled the smells. Terrific!

I'm a sucker for this particular lighting condition...I love when the sky is the same or darker in value than the light part of the landscape. you captured that for me

William and Rhonda, thanks for coming by--I appreciate hearing your thoughts.
