The Once and Future King

Oil on linen, 11" x 14"
Email me for purchase Information.

A larger painting for today.

You may recall my February 26th entry, where I wrote of how cut green willow limbs used as fenceposts have a tendency to grow back into trees again. I really like the idea of that, it speaks to me of the continuity and persistence of life. So when I came across this scarred old veteran in a fencerow the other day, I just had to use a little "artistic license" with the fencepost next to him.

Excellent painting Don. I like how my imagination sees the stump as a being.. in the process of walking along the fence. You have a way of bringing a sense of mystery to your landscapes which are not only technically well designed.. but are quite interesting to view in some indefinable way.

Hi Don, just catching up on your latest posts. Good stuff as usual.
I like the old and the new feeling of this one. The distant hills and sky in the one a few posts down is great too.
I agree that the turn from winter to spring is a great time of year. We don't have much cold to shake off here, but things do start to come alive and the light this time of year is amazing.

Hi Frank. I know from living in southern California that the seasons change in those warm climes too, it is just more subtle. I think we are more attuned than we consciously realize to changes in the "quality" of light, especially at those transition times between seasons. Must have to do with atmospheric conditions, temperature, angle of the sun, and a host of other things. Thanks for your thoughts.

Don, I love your work. The first thing I do every morning is make my hot cocoa and sit down to check your blog. It gets me moving and ready to start my day of painting. I've decided to start a daily painting blog but can't figure out how to put the paypal links on. I already have a merchant account. Can you send me in the right direction? Thanks so much - for everything. Serena@zittaw.com
