These got plopped down next to one another quite incidentally. I don't know why, but there's something I like about this unlikely combination. And that's reason enough for a painting. It's important to trust one's intuition--things don't always have to make "sense."

These latest works are very impressive Don; love the skin on that onion and the light is superb.
The unlikely combination starts the gears turning in my head trying to put together the why. Besides that, it is a great painting.

A nice article on San Miguel in Sunset Magazine this month. A beautiful place--no wonder you live there.
I tried "plopping down" a tuna fish next to a player piano once. It didn't punch as true as onions and string. Good call. How about a roll of barb wire and a concertina? Now that's a painting.
That onion skin is pure magic-love the translucent quality.
Rick, I tried the same thing once and you're right, tuna and pianos just don't resonate like onions and string.
I like the barbed wire/concertina thing...just trying to figure out how to "plop" them down.
