This horse reaps the rewards of a greener than usual summer in the upper foothills. That's the Elkhorn Mountains in the far distance, peeking over the hills of High Valley.

I love the way the land sweeps around into shadow, intersecting with the horse's neck holding the composition together. I tell students that the earth is round, not straight lines across the paper with stuff lined up on them. This tells the tale. Magnificent array of greens too. Nice!

Thanks, Mary. I enjoyed doing this one...felt like it hit more or less the right note of painterliness and color quality that I was after. (Of course I didn't know that's what I was after until it was finished :)

This is truly beautiful- a huge painting in such a few square inches.

I really appreciate that, Susan.

So small, yet it has a big feel to it. Before I checked I would have thought it was at least a 16x20! You got it all, and a nice empathy with the rendering of the horse, too. Love the way you dealt with the greens.

Oops, I meant "Triecia."

Don, thank you for your lovely words on my blog; I am really touched by your support.

PS different name spelling has been with me all my life and I answer to them all ;)

You're most welcome, Triecia--delighted to see you painting again.

I think your unusual name is a lovely one, but you've no doubt had to develop a thick skin for spelling.
