Don I love the mystery of this beautiful painting. There is a tension to it, an old door, but a contemporary painting. Is it opening or closing? Is there a shadow? Is it a person coming or going? Are doors opening and closing for you now?

I love door paintings and photographs. This is a very beautiful and, I find, "tranquil" image even though I do want to know what's on the other side.

You are such a curious critter Don,I've been enjoying this series. And I had to chime in though I'm on vacation! You just had to make me think shop!

Katherine, there could hardly be a more obvious metaphor for transitions/passages in one's life than a partially open (or closed?) door. But it's no less evocative to me for its obviousness. Even in our familiar spaces, doors affect us psychically, evoking emotions ranging from curiosity to anxiety. No doubt all of the above is at work on me right now, though I hadn't really thought about it consciously. Thanks for your perceptive comments.

"Curious critter," eh Erika? Well I've been called worse. Thanks for your note--now get back to work!

Out of all your recent door paintings, Don, this one is the best. Very painterly and realistic at the same time.

The brown on the door is almost a rich milk chocolate color!

I don't know what it is. Maybe it's the brown of the door and the white of the wall. Something about the color combinations here that I just like the best.

Thanks, Dean.

Love the mystery this evokes... Have a door obsession myself, especially older ones--my husband keeps saying we have enough doors to put 10 on every doorframe, but the barn isn't full yet...

Thanks, Rebecca. When you fill the barn you can always build another one to store more. Obsessive?...naah!
