The Pheasant Fields

Oil on board, 5" x 7"
$125 plus $6 shipping in U.S.
SOLD

The season turns. Lush grasses of summer have faded to shades of russet and tan. My legs part the dry tangle with a gentle shoe shoe sound. A pheasant bursts from cover with a loud flutter and series of clucks, leaving me standing with my heart in my mouth. The sun settles below the horizon and I wonder why I didn't think to wear a jacket.

This is gorgeous, Don!

You captured the glow of the setting sun perfectly.

Very detailed and almost romantic!

Beautiful! And just the word pheasant brings back fond memories of hunting.

Hi Dean--thanks! Yes, I guess it does have a kind of romantic look, doesn't it? More so than most of my work, anyway.

Thanks Bill. Yeah, me too. When I was a kid I used to go pheasant hunting with my dad. Even though now I'd rather watch them fly away unscathed, I do have fond memories of those experiences. (Of course, as poor a shot as I was most of the birds were unscathed anyway!)
