Flocks of starlings have been raising a ruckus around here lately. Early in the morning they swirl over the fields and alight in the big willows near the barn. There they commence a loud chatter, everybody talking at once. It may be joyous chirping, but I'm not so sure. It sounds more like a knock-down drag-out family argument.

These old horseshoes hung over the fence rail cast some interesting shadows in the morning light.
