Cape Meares Light

Watercolor on archival paper, 6" x 6 1/2"
$125 plus $6 shipping in U.S
SOLD

On our last blustery morning at the coast, we visited fog-shrouded Cape Meares. The ocean was a surging mass of grey that merged imperceptibly with the sky...awesome and mysterious.

This beautiful little lighthouse had been senselessly vandalized earlier in the year--several windows had bullet holes. At least one of the bullets damaged the valuable Fresnel lens inside. I read where they made a couple of arrests in the case. For my painting, I restored it to pre-vandal state. Wish it were that easy for them to restore it in reality.

What a lovely tribute to that beacon. We need more light in these times.

bullets? it would have been vandalised with stones around here.

I appreciate that, Rahina. I do think this type of vandalism is rare, even here. I wish they'd only had stones--maybe wouldn't have damaged the lens.
