Here's a new piece in my more contemporary direction. I've been playing with manipulating the paint using trowels and scraping tools. Each piece is done independently, then later I start putting them in arrangements like this. The search is for a visual narrative--a point where each segment starts rhythmically "speaking" to the others.
I plan to mount these sheets on cradled supports and then varnish, so they won't require framing under glass.

I like the use of both transparent and opaque washes in the acrylic. You have really exploited the medium to the full. In these pieces do you enjoy working in acrylic and oil equally? I am also interested in whether you will 'frame' them "as a set" on one support or whether you will frame each sheet separately.
Thanks for your note, Sheila. I really do enjoy working with both media. acrylic, as you know, is great to be able to keep layering and scumbling over, without having to wait for paint to dry. Oil has a jewel-like depth that is unmatched, so I always bounce back and forth.
I plan to mount each sheet on it's own cradled panel, which will be about 1 1/2" deep. The sheets will be varnished, and the panels hung side by side, spaced about 3/4" apart. I don't anticipate further framing.
Oh, these are magical! What jewel like color!! I'm a sucker for black juxtaposed with with rainbow hues. Beautiful new direction! It must feel great to be freed from the rendered image for awhile...
