Is there anything more intense than the piercing stare of a bird of prey? This spectacular Red-tailed Hawk paused on a limb to look me over good, before drifting away across the fields.

Posts may be a little sparse for the next couple weeks. Our daughter in Portland is expecting her first child, officially due June 10th (yikes, that's now)! Brenda and I are poised to jump in the truck when we hear she's in labor and try to get to the hospital before the baby's born. The catch is we live almost five hours away, so it could be touch and go. We'll be staying there for about two weeks after the big day. I'll bring my painting gear and try to get some dailies done...we'll see how it goes--I'll probably be pretty busy playing grandpa.

That's great news Don! Soon to be a grandpa heh? Hope all goes well. Weren't you lucky to get to see the hawk at such close quarters! Beautiful birds.

Hi Sheila--thanks. Yes, we're excited! This is our third grandchild, but first one in 17 years, and first boy!
