Stilt

Stilt
Watercolor on Yupo, 6" x 6"
SOLD

A Black-Necked Stilt wades in the shallows of Ladd Marsh. These aptly-named birds are a joy to watch as they wade gawkily along on their long, spindly legs.

This is my second painting on Yupo, the extremely smooth, plastic "paper". I'm learning that while I'm making other plans, Yupo does what it wishes. The paint puddles and crawls across the surface in unpredictable ways. Once I got used to its headstrong nature, I found myself having a great time just trying to "go with the flow".

Lovely painting Don. I have painted on Yupo also. It does have its own way of gathering paint into puddles. Hope you do some more as I like the effect.

I have never painted on yupo, but it sounds interesting and I like your painting. The water is captured so well!

Don, the "yupo effect" is beautiful and amazing, just balanced on the cusp of chaos and order.

Thanks, Linda. Using the Yupo is like a little life lesson on giving up control, isn't it? :^) I do love responding to its unpredictability.

"...cusp of chaos and order" is a great way to put it, Anne--thanks!
