Here's a drawing from my alter ego--the Don Gray who does less literal, more imaginary kinds of images. Visit my contemporary blog to see three other new drawings from this series.

This kind of work happens in a way that is almost diametrically opposed to the realist approach. Instead of a pre-determined goal, they're begun with no real idea of where they will end up. I start by making some kind of mark, then respond to that with another, then another. The drawing or painting grows through an intuitive and random process of discovery. For me, working this way is a needed counterpoint to the more structured, analytical approach of realist painting.
