Happy New Year! May 2012 bring much joy and contentment to all.
A larger painting today. This Chinese Pheasant rooster is helping me ring in the year. When I was a kid my dad took me hunting for these exotic-looking birds. These days I'm content to just admire their beauty. I was never much danger to them anyway. Usually the pheasants would run ahead, hidden in the tall grass until they were far out of shotgun range before flying away.

Wonderful values popping and receding into the distance, soooo lovely!
I neglected to mention that your work never fails to inspire me to do better, Don. Happy New Year!
Nicely done Don. It reads like a much larger painting.
Happy New Year to you, Diane! Thank you for your generous remarks. Your work is equally inspiring--looking forward to seeing what you paint in 2012.
Thanks a lot, Scott.
Happy New Year to you too Don!
Love this painting with its stunning play of light and perspective/depth enhanced by the distant mountains, pure outdoor poetry.
You have such talent and such a generous spirit, Pierre--thank you. Happy 2012!
