Recently, I was commissioned to do a painting on a Hawaiian Islands theme. It was great going through photos from our trip to Maui a couple of summers ago--a chance to re-live the experience of that magical place. I was reminded of several paintings I'd planned that never materialized. Wanting to offer my clients a choice, I ended up doing two paintings. Here is "the one that got away".

(Note: if the painting has a strange "moire" pattern on your screen, be assured it's not there in the actual painting. The canvas pattern distorts the digital grid on the screen at certain sizes. Eliminate it by enlarging or reducing the size of the screen image.)

Aloha Don,
This is beautiful. I can't believe your clients didn't take this one, too.
Looking at it and dreaming of our rapidly approaching relocation, a single word will suffice to describe how it makes me feel:
Best of luck with the mural project, Don.

Aloha, Gary--thanks for the encouragement.

Have to say, though your move to Hawaii is no doubt going to be great for you, I will feel a pang of loss that you're no longer in PDX. You are one of Portland's finest promoters and tour guides, and I'll miss your upbeat photo essays of the place. Also-- selfishly--I felt I could claim you as a fellow Oregonian, even though we've yet to meet in person.

Evening Don,
I must say, if we ever get cold feet about the Hawaii move, I'm going to cite your comments as one of biggest reasons to stay in Portland!
I can hardly express how much your words touched me. And you can always claim me as a fellow Oregonian--no matter where we live.
It's been a great pleasure to follow your adventures in paint, and life. Maybe it's in the cards that when we finally do meet, it should be in Hawaii. Not such a bad idea, eh?!
Until then,
