Back in August I posted "Between Acts", one of my night mall series works painted in 2006. Several people have asked to see more paintings from this series, so here's another. We often went to movies in this theater near our former home in southern California.

Thanks Don - I am one of those who asked if I could see more of this series. What is it about this kind of metaphysical, almost surrealist work which is attractive to us? I think it relates strongly to dreams and temporary states of reality. I love the blue arches and the yellow diamonds which emphasise the stage set feel.

Somehow I am attracted to night scenes these days. Love the glow in this one. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you, Sheila. Artificial lights at night always create a kind of surreal effect, I think. Trying to recreate the feeling of glowing neon in this work was the biggest challenge. I was drawn to this subject because the rich color and light felt almost carnival-like.

Thanks so much, Gerard! Your night paintings are superb--like all your work.
