A New Book

My longtime friend Bob Emerson has written a delightful novel that has just been published, called "Back To The High Desert". A detail of a painting of mine that Bob owns was used for the cover.

The story centers on Roger Dane, a wealthy former oil titan who, at age 80, rebels against his well-meaning son's efforts to place him in assisted living. Roger embarks on a journey back to his childhood roots in Depression era eastern Oregon. Requesting a car and driver through a local employment agency, he is dismayed to discover that the driver is a young girl just graduated from high school. Their testy relationship gradually evolves into one of mutual respect as, through the old man's quest to re-trace his heritage, Julie discovers her own.

The book is available through Amazon.

Sounds great - I'm getting to the age where anyone who rebels against assisted living gets a "well done" in my books! Your painting looks fab too Don. There is a Swedish novel out called "The one hundred year old man who climbed out of the window" (the window being situated on the ground floor of an old folks home - residential accommodation). So there's two books I need to get my hands on!

Ha--I know what you mean, Sheila! I love the name of that Swedish novel. Guess our summer reading is cut out for us, isn't it?
