Hope you had a great Independence weekend. We had a 360 degree fireworks show from our deck here in Vancouver. People all over town were setting off major fireworks--I'm talking about big rockets, Roman candles, the works. It went on for hours and hours...crazy!

Here's the first of some paintings I'm doing from our Oregon coast trip last week. This gull was perfectly perched on the fishing boat Azalea, moored in the harbor at Newport. It occurred to me that harbor gulls must have an easier life than those out on the open ocean. After all, it's less windy, smooth floating on the bay and lots of easy pickings on and around the fishing boats and packing plants. I'll bet the open ocean birds call the harbor gulls wimps, while secretly they're jealous.
