Really beautiful, Don. This is the type of subject I'm constantly attracted to, but have trouble pulling off! I think what I can learn form your strong, vibrant rendering of this old tree is that I need to focus more on the negative shapes created by the tree--here, the tree, plus the negative shapes it forms, makes such a pleasing design!

Cool jade greens always get my attention. Especially against warm greens. Great effect!

BTW; enjoyed yesterday's painting of an elegant little corner of California architecture.

Hi Laura and thanks so much. Interesting that you would focus on the negative shapes. That's what I was focused on when painting this. I started by roughing in the darks of the tree limbs, drawing with a fairly broad brush. I kept looking at the spaces between the limbs to give me proportion.

Silvina, I'm enjoying the practice on all the variety of greens that have arrived with spring. Like many other painters, I find greens challenging, though I'm not sure why.

Thanks for the kind words.
