Yes what you seem to be portraying increasingly in this series is a less and less romanticized view of the sea. This one to me is even a little scary. It's a bit cold too like the seas up here in the north of England. Did you even see our northern artist L.S.Lowry's paintings of the sea?

A nice serene feeling in this piece. I love how you capture the glistening of light on the water. It would be great if you could paint the coast of Maine someday, we certainly have plenty of coastline. The Pacific Northwest is also beautiful. I lived in Olympia for ten years before coming home to Maine. Nice Job!

I googled Lowry's work and saw a few examples of his ocean things--I see why you saw an analogy there.
Jean, thanks for your note. Would love to paint the Maine coast. I've never been there but hope to someday. So many lovely places--so little time!
You are right about paring down to the essentials on the small panels especially.
This is such a great series Don.
I think it's difficult to paint large expanses of land on little panels with out it looking too simplistic. You've mastered it.
