Dry Leaves

Oil on board, 6" x 6"
$125 plus $6 shipping in U.S.
SOLD

I picked up these cottonwood leaves from the forest floor along Catherine Creek a month or so ago. They were freshly fallen, moist and rich in fall color. I intended to paint them right away, but instead placed them on a window sill and semi-forgot them while one thing lead to another.

I noticed them today, realizing they had acquired another kind of beauty over time. Now their curling surfaces are crackle-dry and fragile, their colors faded to the most delicate and beautiful harmonies.

Hi Don! Lovely subject, great painting! The subtlety of the colors and the way you've captured the leaves' brittle texture are truly amazing!

These are beautiful, Don. I've been working on a leaf project for about 11 years and was just bringing some strands of it together. Leaves are in the air!

Leaves are literally in the air, Suzanne! I'm intrigued about your 11 year project. Do you have it online, is it private, or...?
