I seem to be on a quest for green.
This is the first time I've painted on Yupo, a plastic "paper" with a very smooth, bright white surface. The paint has a mind of its own on this non-absorbent surface, so the technique can best be described as an attempt to capitalize on chaos. It's great fun.
Hand-signed archival prints of this painting are available for $50, plus $6 shipping. The image size is same as original. Email for purchase.

Don I've worked in a few yupo, I must say you show great control for your first! I took for granted you hadn't tried it when I saw your recent bull watercolor. So did you like it? You capitalized on the chaos successfully! ;)
Thanks, Erika. I did like it a lot--it helps keep me from being too tied to the original source material or idea--I have to be more inventive and responsive to what happens on the paper.
Gorgeous; and quite a triumph on Yupo; bravo:)
Hi Don,
I've often read that "green can be a very tricky color", but you've mastered it for sure.
What a quietly serene scene you've made out of a very busy location. I would've gone bananas with all this information and lights and shadows.
Bravo, Don!
Sincerely,
Gary.
Though red and green is a fair fight, violet seems to calm the savage beast in a gentler way.
I used to paint on a textured plastic paper. That was weird enough, but Yupo sounds like dancing on banana peels. Take a look at Randall David Tipton's "Painter's Progress". He's a Yupo maestro.
Wow. I really like this one, Don :) Crazy cool!
Hi David--that means a lot, coming from such a fine watercolorist--thank you.
Thanks, Gary--I'm grateful for the encouragement.
"Dancing on banana peels"--I love that analogy, Sam!
Randall is on my link list--he's fabulous with Yupo...or anything else.
Thanks a lot, Teague!
I have painted on Yupo and have painted woodland streams. Both are hard but you made this looked so easy.
Don - I love the way you paint water. Beautiful!
Any ideas why your blog pics aren't showing up on my roll??
It's strange - you are among 3 that don't and I'd love to fix it!
Welcome to my blog, C, and thanks.
Thanks a lot, Jane!
I think the problem is that my images reside on my own server, not Blogger's. Sorry--I don't know how to fix it.
ok - good to know!
Hope all is well :)
Jane
How could I've missed this amazing piece! Wonderful rendering and composition Don. More Yupo... you're on fire!
Hi Pierre--your thoughts are so appreciated--thanks!
