Rocky Ridge

I read a book recently called "In Search of Ancient Oregon". It's illustrated with terrific photos taken by the author, Ellen Morris Bishop. The book walks the reader back through millenia from a geologist's perspective. Geologist's read rocks much like a forensic scientist reads fingerprints. It's mind-boggling and fascinating trying to wrap one's mind around all the changes that have occured over millions of years, just in this little corner of the world.

After reading the book, even humble outcrops like the one in this painting take on a new resonance for me--evidence of the amazing processes taking place on our amazing earth.

Hi Don,
Hope all goes well at the hospital and birth.
Wonderful post. With your words you brought a whole 'nother life to "Rocky Ridge" for us. I thought your description of both the book and your fascination with Oregon's past was spot on and they brought the painting to life.
Bravo.
Sincerely,
Gary.
