It's still a beautiful early fall here--I'm not trying to hurry winter in with this painting. This piece was commissioned by a couple who used to live in the area and wanted a reminder of eastern Oregon winters. They had seen a painting of mine done many years ago and wanted something similar. While doing this painting I thought of that earlier work and kind of channeled my early Wyeth-like style a bit. It's pretty true to the look of winter in these parts, though.

I'm happy to savor fall for as long as possible, but this is a really wonderful depiction of winter! I'm sure your clients are (or will be) thrilled with it, Don.

I'm with you, Sonya--love winter but love long Indian summers too. Thanks for the nice note.

Great ppainting Don. I just had a look on our weather local forecast for the next 7 days, yup our late extending summer in Montreal (80°)will end this week with a drop of almost 20 degrees and now this wonderful winter scene on your site... I'm in. The contrast between the group of cows and their surrounding echoed by the trees is just beautiful. Winter Sonata.

"Winter Sonata"--what a lovely way to put it, Pierre--thanks. Yes, the season is turning for sure, and despite our human tendency to complain about it, it's a beautiful thing.
