The inspiration for a painting can be very elusive, often depending on the tinest of details. This scene looked pretty ho-hum to me until this yearling turned its head and caught the sun's last rays. I knew immediately that I wanted to try to capture that moment.

It should be a desolate scene, a late winter afternoon, no snow, no green. But all that great warm brown makes it anything but. Really like this one.
