A covey of California Quail scurry under a fence and up a wintry slope.

There are a lot of quail in our area. We see them foraging in our yard or fields nearly every day, especially in winter. Winslow gets great joy out of madly chasing them, but he's never caught one--they're very quick. They often cross the road in front of my truck in single file and miraculously avoid getting run over. Artful dodgers.

I do so enjoy your muted colours.

So like the warmth that sneaks into your very wintery landscapes.

I enjoy this watercolor a lot Don as each of your winter scenes in oil. Something about the contrasts played by the earthy tones translate pretty well the calm serenity of those surroundings.

Lovely, Don. Reminds me of Andrew Wyeth's work.

Thanks, Carol Lee. I've always thought that subtle colors really have a chance to sing in winter, against the white snow.

Thanks, Diana. Yes, winter kind of brings out my "inner Wyeth," I guess. He was my model as a young painter.
