Oregon Country Cottage

Sorry I've been pretty much AWOL from the blog lately, but it has been pretty chaotic around here. Brenda and I have decided to move to the Portland, Oregon area, and we've been very busy getting ready to put our home up for sale. Two days ago we pounded a "For Sale By Owner" sign by our driveway, so I guess we're really doing this!

We struggled with this decision, since northeast Oregon has been home turf for both of us from childhood. And it is absolutely beautiful around here. But new horizons beckon. Oh, and maybe our decision was influenced a little by the fact that two of our three kids as well as our soon to be two year old grandson live in Portland--and they all love it there.

Anyway--to the point of this blog post: Anybody wanna buy a house? OK, let me sweeten the pot. The home sits on 14 1/2 acres of lovely, level, irrigated farmland, right at the edge of the charming little town of Union. You'll have it all: quiet, peaceful and private country living, with the convenience of town just down the road.

There's also another 16 nearby acres for sale if you want to build a dream home or pasture those blooded horses of yours. We've set up a couple of websites where you can see more photos and details: www.oregoncountrycottage.com, and www.oregoncountryacres.com.

The cottage-style home is small but well-built, snug and comfortable. We've done a lot of updating inside.

Here's the sturdy little barn I love. It has showed up in many of my paintings over the years.

We have spectacular views out here. The valley is ringed with forested mountains, including the Eagle Cap Wilderness area.

The home is 2 bed, 2 bath, with a living/dining room, kitchen with nook, as well as a laundry room and bonus room that we use for an office.

The kitchen has a light-filled nook that's great for morning coffee.

If you want to see more, visit www.oregoncountrycottage.com and www.oregoncountryacres.com.

Thanks for letting me use the blog for a bully pulpit!

Hi Don,
Geez, was I shocked to read your post! At the same time, you could not have chosen a better place to re-settle. With all the family there, you've got it made and the city is a huge bonus.
No matter how long we live in Honolulu, we'll always cherish our many fond memories of living in Portland. I hope you two find the perfect home and truly enjoy the transition to this next phase of your lives.
Best wishes for a quick sale of your home and a problem-free move.
Sincerely,
Gary.

Don, hope you don't mind I posted a link on my fb page. You never know where a sale might come from. Good luck. My 4 kids all live in different states so we don't know where to move, so I guess we're staying put.

Hi Gary--thanks for your--as always--most gracious comments. Your loving blog posts about Portland helped encourage us in our move--just sorry you won't be there when we get there. But it sounds like another grand adventure you two are sharing in Hawaii...onward and upward!

Hi Sharon—mind?...not at all, I’m very grateful—thank you! Yes, we’re fortunate to have two of our three kids in one area, and looking like they’re going to stay there. I know there are lots of families like yours, where the kids are widely scattered—makes it hard.
