My bird doodles seem to be morphing into something else--a series, maybe? Funny how that happens. This one seems somehow musical to me. The energy and rhythm of the placement of colors and marks feel kind of jazz-like.

These are fascinating Don. As you say the ambiguous nature of space here and yet a feeling of space is definitely there. The surface is ostensibly busy and yet restful at the same time. I think the balance of shape and form contributes heavily to that but there is still a feel of imaginative possibility here without the thing becoming, as we say in the UK "twee". In this particular painting I love the angularity that is creeping in. We saw that a lot in your rock paintings so it must be something about the way you see things. Thanks for sharing Don!

Thank you, Laura.

Hi Sheila--thank you for your in-depth thoughts on the painting. I'm really interested in trying to convey a sense of ambiguous space, since I think it more accurately reflects the world as we understand it today. Research in particle physics and other sciences increasingly shows us that space, time, dimension are much more complex than they appear.
