| Over eons, successive layers of volcanic ash were laid down on vast plains of the southwestern desert. The soft surfaces erode away over time, exposing these spectacular striped patterns. | |

Gotta tell you, I've been enjoying this very warm series of desert paintings. It's been so gray and wet outside my window. Your pictures have been like a ray of sunshine.
Yeah, you've had a lot of rain, haven't you Silvina? I remember it was like that the first winter we lived in California, in 1999-2000. More rain than Seattle for a couple months.
Well its been down to 10 below zero here, so yes, I'm definitely into escapism! Glad you're enjoying.
It's snowing now! That's rare here.
Awww... it barely rains here.
(now this reminds me of O'Keefee...)
Nicely done, Don!
When I first saw this painting, I thought I knew the spot--a place in the Painted Hills in Oregon. Maybe it isn't--but then again, maybe so seeing you live in the state. Anyway, very nice!
Thanks, Jason. Guess its pretty hard to paint these eroded hills without referencing O'Keefe.
Vicki, the model for this painting is actually in Arizona's Painted Desert, but Oregon's Painted Hills country has always held a huge attraction for me. In fact, I did a number of paintings based on the Painted Hills years before we moved to Arizona.
Thanks for coming by--you do great work!
