Winter is going out like a lion, fighting a pitched battle in the skies over the valley. For a fleeting moment, sunlight finds its way through the storm clouds.

Email me if you'd like to purchase. I'll send you a PayPal invoice or we can arrange other terms.

We're back to rocks and water again! This is a larger painting, not a daily. A couple of years ago I painted a mural in Sussex, New Brunswick, Canada. It is beautiful--miles and miles of wild, remote country. In places, the forest is so dense it is hard to imagine a rabbit crawling through, let alone a person. The spectacular Bay of Fundy quickly became a favorite. This day of mists felt primal. I half-expected to see the square sails of some early explorer's ship rounding the point.

Sammy
Oil on board, 10" x 8"
Sold

This is another commissioned dog portrait. I love dogs and we've been pretty lonesome since losing Pablo, our great little Beagle cross, last fall. It's been fun doing these portraits, since I feel I get to know the dog while I'm painting them, even if it's just from photos. In the case of Sammy I had the good fortune to meet him, which helped a lot.

I'll be gone over the weekend and plan to be back Monday with another post. Have a great weekend, everyone.

Spring Runoff

$125 plus $6 shipping in U.S.

Email me for purchase info.

Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day, warm at last! I headed for the mountains and spent an enjoyable afternoon doing some plein air painting alongside this purling stream. The snow up high is melting fast, giving the silt-filled water a lovely milky blue-green color.

The Webmaster
Oil on canvas, 20" x 24"
Not for sale

I did this painting a couple of years ago of our son, Jared. Today is his 30th birthday (how can that be?) so it seemed appropriate to post this painting.

When I painted this, Jared was webmaster and graphic designer for a travel company in La Jolla, California. He did much of his work at home on a laptop, and many late nights one could walk in and find him intently staring at the screen, his trusty French press coffemaker beside him; scrawled notes, Pepsi cans and calculators scattered across the table.

Jared's ability to focus is amazing--he becomes completely absorbed. I set up a tripod and took several photos from about six feet away to use as reference for this painting. Later, when he saw the completed work, he was puzzled at how I had done it, since he hadn't even noticed I was there.

I'm fortunate and proud that you are my son and my friend, Jared. Happy Birthday!!

Since I seem to be on a theme of rocks and water, this is a recent work painted for entry in a juried exhibit. The jury's still out... or maybe they've decided and they just forgot to phone...maybe I should call and remind them.

Spent all day yesterday in the studio with my head buried in a painting. When I finally surfaced late in the day, I walked outside to see this incredible sky looming over the little barn. I couldn't resist giving it a try in paint.

Tangerine and Candlesticks

Oil on board, 6" x 6"
$125.00 + $6.00 shipping in US.
SOLD

I did this painting some time ago-- before we left California, in fact. Don't know why I didn't post it before, except that it is one of my personal favorites. I think I just wanted to have it around to look at.
