This started as an exercise in wishful thinking.

It was yet another rapidly warming cloudless morning when I completed this painting today, heat waves already rippling off the sidewalk below the studio. But by afternoon dark clouds had rolled in, scattering jagged lightning and sudden, drenching showers across the valley.

I guess I didn't realize the power of wishful thinking.
