Tucked away in small settlements away from the coastal resorts are small cottages where many of the locals live. Though often very humble, these unassuming homes settle into the landscape with a sense of belonging that eludes the towering hotels.

Hi Don!
I'm really enjoying your "slide show!" What colors!! Glad you are safe and that the wedding was perfect!

Yeah, and no matter who they are, they all get green doorknobs. Maintenance is a big issue for the haoles, while these sweet little houses just nestle further into the ground, happy to be subsumed by the jungle funk.

I'm loving every one of these "slides". I'm waiting to see all you've got before picking one. Keep em coming! :o)

Hello Martha--thanks a lot! Seeing the Maui colors was a fabulous shock, coming from the pre-spring muted tones of home.

Thanks for the well-wishes!

I wasn't observant enough to notice the green doorknobs. Sam, you've obviously lived in Hawaii...where/when?

I loved the way you described these houses nestling into the ground.

I've just realised, this reminds me of the taxi drivers house in Addis! The same type of structure isn't it although this is more hidden in foliage. A really nice painting this one Don.

Sunset Beach on the North Shore of Oahu. Every January for the BIG waves. In the interest of living to see them again, I do not ride them.

You're right, Sheila. I took another look at your painting and sure see the resemblance. Thanks for the visit.

You're a wise girl, Sam. :) I would love to see the big waves there, and the crazy surfers...maybe I'll see you there sometime.
