What you post this amazing little painting and talk about sun and Winslow? Thought you'd sneak up on us? I LOVE this painting Don.

Thanks much, Rahina!

Can't put anything past you, can I Katherine? :^} Thanks a lot!

Sure good to see your show at Willow--the pieces looked gorgeous.

Um, yeah what's the deal Don? It's like a color explosion!! Love it.

It's the joy of painting, Diane...you know all about it! :^}

Thanks!

I think you just "went for it" - it's fantastic when that happens. The shadows though I think are really important here. It stops the painting being "illustrative" and grounds the object.

ps. no, I couldn't see Winslow. Give us a clue..

OK...was Winslow a reflection? lol I love the shell...is amazing how all those colours work so wonderfully!

Don Gray said...

Thanks, Sheila--you're right, the painting just "happened" rapidly and with little second thought. Such a release to work that way.

OK, a clue: Pay close attention at the very end.

Hi Micah--thanks a lot. See above for a Winslow clue. :^]

Equipment malfuntion (wasn't me) somehow dropped your thumbnail. Fixed it in time for this rainbow shell. Spectacular!

Thought the rocks in the video were also pretty colorful, in their own way.

Was that Winslow's wake on the right?

Hi Don
I sure enjoy looking at your shell painting colors!

Micah Neff said...

Is that Winslow swimming...it looks like a head pops up and then goes off LOL

Don Gray said...

Many thanks, Sam! Glad your thumbnails have returned.

No, Winslow wasn't in the water. Look carefully for a teeny bit of movement at the very end.

Thanks, Steve, and welcome to my blog!

No Micah, Win's not in the water. It was pretty unfair of me to even mention Winslow, since I can barely see him myself. When Blogger uploads a video they degrade the image a lot by throwing away a bunch of pixels to reduce file size. I think they also trimmed some off the fade out--that's when Winslow appears, at the very end, in the far distance at upper right.

OK, I gave it away!
