Secluded Grove Oil on board, 6" x 6" $125.00 + $6.00 shipping in US. SOLD As if the gods had been playing marbles, huge granite boulders are scattered randomly across the Santa Rosa Plateau. These stones seemed to frame a "hidden" entrance into a lovely grove of oaks.

Feels good to get back to posting after a few days away on a small mural project in Ojai, one of the few places in southern California that's not on fire--or so it seems. Our hearts go out to the thousands who have lost their homes and the unbelievable number of evacuees--some 900,000 in San Diego County alone! It is hard to imagine how stressful it must be to be forced to leave in such a hurry. Some friends in Fallbrook are calling their answering machine every so often as a way of determining whether or not their home has burned. We are very fortunate so far--nearest fire about eight miles away. The prediction is for lowered temperatures and less wind, so I hope the end is in sight.

We are moving full-circle after 13 years, back to northeast Oregon. I look forward to the move, but we're going to sorely miss family and friends here in California, as well as our many favorite places, especially the ocean. The other day I enjoyed a beautiful afternoon at Torrey Pines State Reserve, near San Diego--a natural set-aside that is one of the loveliest spots on the southern coastline. Chaparral and native pines hug the steep-walled ravines that lead down to the gleaming water.

Midwest farmers spend long hours on riding mowers cutting many acres around their homes and outbuildings. Here comes one of my crackpot theories: I think that farming has become such an efficient and highly mechanized science that the farmers have more time on their hands these days. Or perhaps for some their small family farms are leased out to bigger corporate operations. Either way, riding the mowers keeps them busy and outdoors where they love to be.

This isn't a daily painting but a larger work I did some time ago. This is Pablo (as in Picasso), our beloved little dog who died of old age last weekend. Such a loving friend and companion to us empty-nesters, he leaves a real void.

Here he is at the top of the stairs, waiting for me to get the leash and take him for a walk.

The painting is currently in a show in New York, but when I get it back I think I'll keep it.

I just wanted everyone to see what Pablo looked like.
