Those of you who have followed my blog for some time know that I have an ongoing body of work that is quite different from the more traditional realist paintings. Here's one from a series of drawings I've been working on lately.

These are improvisational, stream-of-consciousness works. The paper is a kind of void or field in which anything can happen. Beginning with random lines, marks and smudges, I try to build an interesting surface of textures, shapes and values. Fragments of images begin to appear; perhaps something on my studio table finds it's way into a corner of the drawing; next, a figure culled from a photo taken years ago. One thing leads to another in an intuitive dance of balance/counterbalance across the sheet. There is no single subject or idea other than the idea that anything can be made to co-exist in this dream world.

Another great dreamscape! And is that a dog schnozz I see there?...

LOVING this series Don. The disjointed dreamy imagery, half abstract and half realized is wonderful. Your superb craftsmanship shines through all.
