Spring has sprung! Or at least the beginnings of it. There's nothing like those early greens; later in the summer they gray out more and lose intensity. I drove to Walla Walla on Wednesday. It's only about 70 miles away as the crow flies, but weeks ahead of our valley seasonally. Wheat fields are up and growing strong, the trees are leafed out and flowering, bees are abuzz. Patience--we'll get there.

Fresh Green. Its the perfect title. I clicked to come visit because the greens of spring grabbed me! Isn't it wonderful how those greens get so lush, even before the leaves really pop.
It seems spring is arriving for us at the same moment...
Zing! This little painting has an impact much greater than its dimensions!
Agree with Susan...that brief time between the thaw and the fully leafed out spring is wonderful. The trees outside my studio window went from tiny leaf buds to full leaf literally overnight a few days ago. The lighting is greatly affected!
This is inspiring me to dig out the Jullian.
Love your work Don, especially your historical murals.
thank you fro bringing a little bit of sunshine and spring with this beautiful piece to this part of the world. although it is warming a little, it is really taking its time
Beautiful color Don, you have captured the light so well in this one.
Beautiful greens! Oregon at it's finest....such a scenic state.
Thanks, Kaylyn! Spring always astonishes, doesn't it? It is long awaited, and when it finally arrives it seems to happen overnight.
Deb, you're very kind--thank you. I enjoyed spending some time with your blog and fine work.
It's hard to be patient isn't it, Rahina-- waiting for spring's arrival in these northern climes. Thanks for your visit.
Dan, I sure appreciate that comment. Your own use of color is inspiring.
Thanks, Jacqueline. Yes, Oregon has so many differents kinds of environments, doesn't it? I'll bet it is gorgeous in Portland now.
Ooops...Susan, I thought I replied to you but it's not showing up. Thanks for your comments...Happy Spring!
This is beautiful; I love the rich color!
Always nice to hear from you Leslie--thanks!
A perfect piece Don, vibrant and serene!
Beautiful painting, I love the water :)
I'm so glad spring is starting to show on the north hemisphere, you've been waiting so much for it!
Best regards,
Carolina
Pierre, you are always encouraging--thank you!
Thanks, Carolina, for the nice thoughts about the painting and for the seasonal well-wishes. Happy Spring to you!
Such wonderful shadows, Don!
You could totally tell this was done during the late morning/early afternoon just from the dramatic lighting.
Great job here!
